Santana Madeira Portugal
Santana is a small town situated on the north east of Madeira and is famous for it's small A-framed cottages called palheiros. The cottages have thatched roofs and were originally built to offer shelter for fishermen during the fishing season or as storage for grain. In recent times some have been converted to holiday lets.
Santana is the perfect destination if you're looking for a base from which to explore the Pico das Pedras National Park. Located in the park is the Pico Ruivo which is the highest point on the island.
Santana Cable Car
East of the town center is a cable car which takes you down the cliff face to the shore below and on the way you'll pass a waterfall and terraces.
Madeira's Theme Park
Santana is also the home to Madeira's theme park - Parque Tematico da Madeira which allows visitors to explore Madeira's nature, traditions and history. The park offers many attractions such as a watermill, lake, children's playground, labyrinth, Monte train, auditorium, example A-frame cottages and much more.
Queimadas Ecological Park in Santana
A few kilometres south of Santana is the Queimadas Ecological Park. A lovely place for picnics and walks. Here you'll find the House of Queimadas (Casa das Queimadas) which is used by the parks rangers.
